Sr. Michael of the Heart of Jesus (Mary Margaret Nicholson)
Kenneth Cereola shares his memories of Sr. Michael of the Heart of Jesus (Mary Margaret Nicholson).
For young Kenneth Cereola, that unforgettable figure was Daughter of Wisdom, Sr. Michael of the Heart of Jesus (Mary Margaret Nicholson). As a 7th- and 8th-grade history student at St. Mary Gate of Heaven in Ozone Park, NY, during the vibrant mid-60s, Kenneth found in her a mentor whose lessons reached far beyond the classroom walls.
Fate seemed determined to intertwine their paths. Mere weeks before his 1973 wedding, Kenneth encountered her unexpectedly. Years later, after moving to eastern Long Island, a serendipitous reunion with Sisters of her congregation would once again connect him to his remarkable teacher.
Even now, decades later, Kenneth draws inspiration from a single grade school autograph book entry penned by Sr. Michael more than 60 years ago—a testament to the enduring power of a teacher’s words.
