Our Lady of Perpetual Help Convent Delights with Lively Pizza Bongo Show and Interactive Celebration

Pizza was celebrated in a grand way at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Convent last month. What concluded with a mouth-watering pizza party began with a musical production highlighting the amazing statistics and facts about Pizza from around the world. Through song, dance, and fact- and joke-telling, a hearty appetite for pizza emerged.

Producing a show is an annual gift from staff member Katie Polk, RN, who engages Sisters, staff, and friends in a creatively crafted script of improvisational acts in which cast members put on costumes and play their parts with minimal direction. Not only does she write the script, but she also makes the props and designs the costumes, so that anyone can jump right in, pick up a prop, and play the part.

Conceived and directed by Katie Polk, The Pizza Bongo Show was created as a showcase for the exceptional bongo-playing talents of Sr. Maureen Hurley, DW. The production features original lyrics and music recorded at VuDu Productions in Port Jefferson, NY. Katie Polk wrote, composed, and played the songs—Dawn of Slices, Pizza Box Bonnets, and the Pizza Cha Cha—which were sung by vocalist Dawn Madigan and accompanied on the bongos by Sr. Maureen Hurley, DW. The inventive set, costumes, and props were also designed by Katie Polk. With heartfelt gratitude to past staff member Sue Meyers, Sisters were invited to design their perfect Pizza in a tabletop game and received uplifting Pizza affirmations and commemorative keychains to remember the day.
