Update: The Story of Candelaria Left Behind by Deportation

Candelaria, standing against the backdrop of snow and freezing temperatures, wore only shorts as she left for the airport on Monday night. She and her two U.S.-born children have been forced to leave for Guatemala, a decision made under duress after her husband was deported in January. Thanks to the generosity of friends, funds were raised to secure her children’s passports and tickets to Guatemala.

Before her departure, Candelaria took the time to write the following letter to Sr. Marie, Sr. Anne Marie, and Edwin from St. Camillus Parish, who have faithfully accompanied her on this journey.

Her deep faith and gratitude to our donors will continue to sustain her as she faces the dangers of returning to Guatemala.

Please keep Candelaria and her family in prayer.

Hello, good evening Sister,

My name is Candelaria.
I am writing this to thank you for all your support and for the $900 for the plane tickets for my children and myself. I thank God first of all for such good children that He placed in my path through my situation. At no moment did you leave me alone, even without knowing me. You did not refuse to offer me your support.
I will always be very grateful to all of you—Sister Mary, Brother Edwin, and everyone who supported me. You will always be in our prayers. May Our Lord Jesus Christ always watch over you, protect you, and multiply your blessings greatly.
A big, warm hug, and once again, thank you, a thousand thanks, my brothers and sisters in Christ.
Sincerely,
Candelaria
