Daughters of Wisdom Awards $5,000 Grant to The De La Salle School

Daughters of Wisdom awarded a $5,000 Wisdom Grant to The De La Salle School.

The De La Salle School is rooted in the Lasallian tradition of education. They’re dedicated to providing faith-based education that nurtures personal growth, academic excellence, and social responsibility in young men in grades 5-8. De La Salle’s mission is to provide quality education to those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Their programs include Academics, Academic Intervention Services, a Graduate Support Program, Social-Emotional Learning, Technology, and an After-School Program.

Academic enrichment opportunities include extracurricular activities, like clubs and sports, and field trips. They also continue to work with alumni after they graduate through various programs, beginning in middle school and going past graduation.

The De La Salle School was given a grant to assist with their Extended Day Program, which runs Monday through Thursday after the school day. Participants receive one-on-one tutoring, a half hour of physical activity on the school grounds, and a healthy snack. Students in the program have seen an increase in their grades and test scores. They’re able to learn in a safe environment instead of their home communities, which often are the scene of gangs, violence, and drugs.

The grant funding will aid in student sponsorships, allowing students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds access to the school’s programs, “and its holistic approach to spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social development,” as stated in their grant objective.

"Through these sponsorships, The De La Salle School continues its mission of preparing young men for academic success, leadership, and meaningful service within their communities."

They were recommended for a Wisdom Grant by Sr. Evelyn Lamoureux, DW.

“The De La Salle School serves young men who are poor and have little emotional support. Many of them come from disadvantaged areas and have little opportunity for quality education. They receive that quality education at De La Salle School,”  said Sr. Evelyn.

The De La Salle School was also a Wisdom Grant Recipient in 2022.
