121 Years of Service to Community Lauded Through New Library Fund

A new Fund that will keep the Daughters of Wisdom's legacy alive in perpetuity through the Long Lake Public Library in St. Agatha, Maine, was recently conceived, proposed, and backed with start-up funding by community residents, Patricia Morin, Philip Morin, Gerard Morin, Lorraine Zimmerman, Rita Chamberland, Therese Ouellette, and Peter and Rachel Laponte, the niece of the late Rachel Cyr, (Sr. Bertrand de l'Eucharistie) who was a Daughter of Wisdom (1952- 1964).

The Daughters of Wisdom Fund for Long Lake Public Library in St. Agatha, Maine, was established to commemorate the 210 Daughters of Wisdom who have served the community for 121 years since 1904. This fund also recognizes one of the last projects led by Daughters of Wisdom, Sr. Jackie Ayotte and Sr. Joann Ayotte, who were instrumental in establishing the Long Lake Public Library—the first public library in St. Agatha, Maine —in 2007. Launched in October 2025, the fund aims to raise donations to support the library's collection and services into the future. The Long Lake Public Library Board of Directors is responsible for managing the funds. The Maine Community Foundation will oversee the funds, which will be distributed quarterly. To date, contributions include an initial gift of $27,000, generously donated by six alumni of St. Agatha High School, along with a niece of a former Sister. This donation was made to express their gratitude and appreciation for the excellent education they received during their time at the school. Contributions to the fund will be welcomed from the public, promoting a shared appreciation for the Daughters of Wisdom. If you'd like to contribute, donations can be made to DW FUND-Long Lake Public Library and sent to Rachel Lapointe (Library Treasurer) or Lauren Paradis (Library Director) at Long Lake Public Library, 384 Main Street, St. Agatha, Maine 04772.
