Sophia's Tea Party Proceeds Donated to Food Assistance Programs
Sophia’s Tea Party, in honor of the late Sr. Ann Gray, was held on October 25. The proceeds from this event will be used to help those in need.
The event featured everything a proper tea party should have — tea, scones, finger sandwiches and an invitation to wear a fancy hat. Guests could purchase tickets for a raffle of 21 gift baskets, generously donated by community members, and they had the opportunity to bring home a bouquet of fresh flowers, thanks to the generosity of a local florist.
Proceeds are going to Sisters who have food banks and pantries in their local areas. The money will be used to help those who need it most during this upcoming holiday season.
Around 47 million people struggle with food insecurity every year, according to the nationwide network of food banks, Feeding America. These proceeds are offered to support the work of the many people trying to alleviate this need.
The Daughters of Wisdom previously awarded a $5,000 grant to The Friendly Hands Food Bank in November 2023, which aided people facing food insecurity in Northwest, CT.
