Perfect to a "Tea"
Ninety-one guests gathered on Saturday, October 25th, for Sophia's Tea Party in honor of the late Sr. Ann Gray, DW, in Sacred Heart Hall at the Church of St. Mary in East Islip, NY.
Committee co-chairs, Rosalie Mullane from the Daughters of Wisdom's Mission advancement and volunteer, Ann Weishahn, who planned the event for months, set the pace for the exciting afternoon filled with fellowship, fine food, and fun. The event opened with an overview of the Daughters of Wisdom's ministries by Delegation Leader, Sr. Catherine Sheehan, DW. It was followed by a tribute to Sr. Ann Gray, DW, by Sr. Evelyn Eckhardt, DW.
The High Tea was catered by Eileen Corcoran Launonen of Meals with Momma, who was assisted by her daughter, Margaret, and husband John. They provided an exquisite selection of homemade treats, including blueberry and lemon scones, cherry almond scones, clotted cream, honey, and jam. The savory offerings featured tea sandwiches of salmon caper scallion salad, cranberry walnut chicken salad, honey turkey with Granny Smith apple and truffle cream, and English cucumber with herb cream cheese. A total of about 400 tea sandwiches and 100 scones were served. To conclude the meal perfectly, guests enjoyed a selection of desserts, including exquisite chocolates, macarons, and éclairs.
The event featured a giving table stocked with books donated from the library of Sr. Ann Gray, allowing guests to take a book home with them. Additionally, everyone left with a bouquet of flowers, made possible by Jeanene Amato of Country Village Florist in East Islip, NY. She set up a Flower Bar where guests could create their own floral arrangements.
The highlight of the afternoon was the excitement of the raffle featuring 21 gift baskets, showcasing the wonderful support from the community that donated them and committee members who solicited them.
