Sr. Mona Guerrette Celebrates 60th Jubilee
Sr. Mona Guerrette, DW
It's Jubilee Week for the Daughters of Wisdom!
Today, we celebrate Sister Mona Guerrette, DW, as she marks her 60th Jubilee this year at the age of 80 (Sister Mary Emma, August 22, 1955). This event is part of our annual tradition of honoring our Jubilarians and recognizing their many years of dedicated service.
Do you hear laughter in the air? It might be Sr. Mona, known for her joyful personality and contagious laughter! Years ago, when asked to describe a symbol representing her, Sr. Mona said, "a smile." She frequently brings that smile to our faces when we see her! As one of the pioneering Sisters who helped establish Wisdom's Center, a networking place for women and children, in Lewiston, Maine, Sr. Mona said of her experience there, "I want to accept women where they are at and journey with them. I'm happy. I want to share this happiness. Why should I keep it to myself?"
Sr. Mona served as a nurse for most of her ministry, working in hospitals and clinics in New York, Virginia, and Colorado, and at the Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen in Brooklyn, NY. In her later years, while continuing her nursing career, she transitioned to Hospital Chaplaincy and concluded her service at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY. Over the years, she was a member of the Long Island Association for Aides Patients Chaplaincy Volunteer Program and the Long Island Association for Death Education and Counseling. She also served as a Diocesan Annulment Advocate. Sr. Rosemarie Greco, DW, shared a heartfelt tribute to Sr. Mona for her Jubilee celebration: "As said in Wisdom 1:6, 'Wisdom is a kindly spirit.' That's Mona!"
Thank you and Congratulations, Sr. Mona!
