Contact Your State Senator Today: Tell Him to Intervene to Prevent a “Health Crisis” in Suffolk County

Suffolk County has no public hospital to serve working-poor people who do not have health insurance. Suffolk does have a network of 10 excellent health centers that serve uninsured people – all of them threatened by massive State budget cuts that will exceed $22 million in 2011. Most of these cuts come from the State wanting to unfairly and improperly “clawback” $19.5 from Suffolk for what they claim were “unauthorized” treatments the centers provided going back to 2008, including care for adult chronic illnesses like asthma or early intervention services for children under the age of 3.
JPIC Alert - Issue Water & Air
This week the House is considering a bill that would reduce funding for clean air and clean water by more than 15 percent forcing communities around the country to deal with water pollution from other states and more kids vulnerable to asthma. We are called to be good stewards of God’s good Earth and to protect vulnerable populations in particular from harm. Over the last 40 year, we have experienced an increase in air and water quality due in part to government policy that sets strong standards across city and state boundaries based on the needs of the most vulnerable, not the most able, among us.
Tell your Member of Congress to vote no on the House Interior Appropriations Bill, HR 2584
This bill goes too far eliminating some of the most successful air and water programs that have made our communities healthy and safe places for our families and our children to live. If these cuts are put in place, air and water pollution would increase, leaving everyone more vulnerable to health problems and contamination. Join us in standing up for the health of our communities, children and God’s Creation.

Reauthorize the Trafficking Victims Protection Act
Reauthorize the Trafficking Victims Protection Act
Let's end modern day slavery
The Trafficking Victims Protection Act, first passed by Congress in 2000, is the cornerstone of U.S. efforts in the work to protect victims and prevent modern day slavery in the U.S. and globally. Current federal funding for anti-trafficking programs expires in September 2011. It is crucial that this legislation be reauthorized soon to continue the momentum in the work against human trafficking and to protect victims.
The Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2011 (TVPRA) was introduced June 29th in the Senate as S. 1301. Ask your Senators to co-sponsor and pass the TVPRA.
